This Recommended Practice describes procedures for accelerated tests to photoxidize oils under controlled conditions in order to evaluate the stability of oil to light. No light exposure apparatus is available commercially;therefore, three published procedures are described by which to photoxidize oils. The three procedures represent a range of cost as well as complexity in reproducing each apparatus. To measure oxidation levels and end points in the oil after photoxidation, methods such as peroxide value, odor or flavor by sensory analysis, and gas chromatographic volatile compounds are used.
